Description of the research topics
Our group investigates why patients respond differently to cancer therapies, with the goal of improving precision immuno-oncology. We study how the immune system—particularly tumor-associated macrophages—responds to chemotherapy and immunotherapy, and we aim to identify early biomarkers that predict treatment response or resistance. We also explore the metabolic and epigenetic dysregulation of macrophages, as well as the immunomodulatory role of the tumor-resident microbiota, to uncover new therapeutic opportunities. To ensure clinical relevance, we use patient-derived explant cultures as a human-based model that closely mirrors real tumor responses.
