HORUS workshop at the ULB: immune response towards CMV

On September 7 and September 8 (2026) a HORUS Workshop took place at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the ULB. It was organised by the ULB (team of David Vermijlen, Maria Papadopoulou, Faculty of Pharmacy, U-CRI) who is partner of HORUS, a European research initiative. The HORUS project aims to increase our understanding on the interactions between Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and solid organ transplant recipients. In the workshop we focused on discussing the immune response towards CMV in these patients, with a particular emphasis on T cells. HORUS partners involved in the workshop were: University of Bordeaux, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, Parean Biotechnologies and ULB.

New publication: usage of multiple diversity genes in the delta chain of the TCR

In the canonical model of VDJ recombination, a single diversity (D) gene is incorporated into the complementarity-determining region 3 (CDR3) to generate a T cell receptor δ (TCRδ; TRD) or TCRβ (TRB) chain. Tumor-associated neutrophils (TANs) constitute a major fraction of the immune compartment in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and are increasingly considered as a novel therapeutic candidate. Uncovering Cellular Factors Driving Success or Failure of Immunotherapy

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have transformed cancer treatment, yet many patients fail to respond. To investigate why, Jelena Gabrilo and colleagues from the lab of immunobiology used a preclinical model in which only part of the mice respond to anti-PD-1 therapy, enabling direct comparison between responding and non-responding settings.
